John Curtin Leadership Academy 4-Days Workshop

Hey, the owner of this blog will be away from 23rd to 26th of July. I'll be going to the John Curtin Leadership Academy workshop. It is a four days workshop held in The Vines Resort. Basically, this is the timetable that have been planned out for the workshop.


23rd July (Day 1)
9.30am Arrive at Curtin Building 599 (Curtin Volunteer hub)
10.00am Leave for The Vines Resort from Curtin University
11.00am Arrive at The Vines and settle in.
12.30pm Lunch (Sian White - Curtin Volunteers President)
2.00pm Welcome and introductions, outline of program,
Introductory activities and icebreakers
2.30pm Overview and goal setting/objective setting

  • Thinking big. (Leads on from Success stories)
  • Talk about Fundraising
  • What do you hope to achieve by being here?
  • What do you hope to achieve for your club by being here?
  • Where do you want to be for your advanced camp

3.30pm Self Awareness Instrument - Personality Profile (Myers Briggs)
- Discussion of results and meaning

5.00pm Break

6.00pm Dinner

7.30pm Leadership Olympics

9.30pm Free time



24th July (Day 2)

7:30am Spa or Other Activity
8.30am "Fundraising is more than a sausage sizzle"

9.30am Ice Cream Game/Social Justice Experiment

11.00am Public Speaking Exercise

11.30am Break
12.00pm Lunch
1.00pm GQM
2.30pm What do I have to offer?
· Increasing self awareness (Head, Heart, Hands)
· Playing to your strengths and the strengths of your team
· Myer’s Biggs results recap.
3.30pm Team Challenge/ Learning Activity

4.30pm Team Roles Assessment/ Application
5.30pm Break
6.00pm Dinner
8.00pm Movie
9.30pm Free time




25th July (Day 3)

7.30am Breakfast: Turning $100 into $5000 – with Doug Paling: Head of leading Foodbank in Australia.
8.30am Reflection
10.00am Team challenge
· Focus on trust, and sustainability training.
11.00am Styles of leadership:
· Leadership styles/ Personal Preferences
· Models of leadership
· Divide into groups – snowflakes competition
· Reference Movie
12.30pm Lunch
1.30pm Introduction to Planning
· One car for fundraising
· One car for sustainability in club, society, etc
2.30pm Break – Give them a chance to plan their fundraising
· Mentor offer advice, help. But they shouldn’t tell them what to do.
6.00pm Dinner (Guides speak about their experiences)
8.00pm Formal end the Workshop then introduction to the next step of Action Planning for the Fundraiser Project.



26th July (Day 4)

7.30am Breakfast
8.30am Swimming/Spa or other Morning Activity
9.30am Project Management Brief
· Project Brief
· WBS
· Tuckman Summary
10.30am Balloon Team Building
11.00am Project Management Brief
· Gantt Chart
· Self Time Management

12.00pm Lunch

1.00am Building steps to your future career
· Soft skill discussion
· Showing your soft skills in your resume(Need Resume)
· Strategies for building on existing skills
· Identifying gaps in skill set
· Developing strategies for addressing gaps
· Module talk

2.00pm Where do you want to be at the end of semester?
· Implications for self (What will I do?)
· Implications for your organisation (What can we do?)
· Specific skills to develop / practice
3.00pm Wrap-up / evaluation / feedback / Did we achieve our objectives?
4.00pm Return to Curtin on Bus


Basically, these are the activities that we are going to do in the four days. What scares me is that all of the participants going to be those "ang mos". But I'll definitely need to overcome my weakness which is to social with them and be friends with them under stressful conditions. Pray for me for good outcomes yea!

Sound more like a holiday to me.. got spa some more.. haha.. enjoy urself yeah?!

Haha. Yeah, it was indeed like a holiday. Unique camp. Did public speaking and chose the wrong object to talk - toilet paper.. And guess what?? I gained 3kg in that 4 days!! Had buffet for breakfast and lunch, set dinner with buffet dessert.. Plus all the in-between meals consist of muffins, cakes.. 6 meals per day, just like NS but the portions are far more larger than NS!
